Family Medicine - Family Medicine Santa Rosa

Live, Learn, Care, Thrive: The Future of Family Medicine

Welcome to Kaiser Permanente Santa Rosa’s Family Medicine Residency!

Our mission is to educate full-scope family medicine physician leaders who will transform the culture of the health care system, who will provide compassionate care across the lifecycle and improve the total health and health equity of individual patients, families, and the broader community.

We provide:

  • Unopposed, full scope, family medicine training in a fully integrated healthcare system with a focus on health promotion, disease prevention, and lifestyle medicine.
  • An inclusive, welcoming Family Medicine Center with residency-led social events, team-building workshops, and both hospital- and clinic-based resident workrooms designed to promote connection and community.
  • Longitudinal curricula in lifestyle medicine, AI, community medicine, scholarly activity, geriatrics, behavioral medicine, health equity, and leadership.
  • Longitudinal experience with  FQHC Petaluma Health Center, to gain experience caring for our most vulnerable and marginalized community members.
  • And more!

Our program is located in Santa Rosa, a family-oriented, LGBTQ-friendly and ethnically diverse community. We are located 1 hour from San Francisco, Berkley, and Oakland. We are also less than 30 minutes from the Northern California Coast, Redwoods, and countless wineries. We have easy access to Napa, Lake Tahoe, and other gorgeous areas!

In the words of Lauren Glaser, graduate of the class of 2021:

Kaiser Permanente Santa Rosa Family Medicine Residency set me up for success in my career. I chose to continue at the same campus not only due to the incredibly diverse, intelligent, and collegial team I grew to know and love but also the integrated system that is Kaiser Permanente, which allows us to provide exceptional coordinated care for our patients.  KPSRFMR trained me in a supportive environment and I continue to practice full scope family medicine as a panel-carrying physician as well as teaching as a residency clinic preceptor. The program supported me in carving out a career where I can pursue passions including geriatric, gynecological, and pediatric outpatient care.  I continue to highly recommend this program.

We welcomed our first class of six residents in July 2018. Our exciting program builds on Kaiser Permanente’s 70-year commitment to graduate medical education and the long heritage of Santa Rosa as a model for full-scope Family Medicine practice and education. Our curriculum is designed intentionally to prepare you for the future of family medicine. You will have the opportunity to help shape the culture of our program, care for our diverse patient population, and learn from an enthusiastic faculty. At the end of your three-year training, you will be fully prepared to be an outstanding family physician wherever you choose to practice.
