FAQ

What type of applicants are you looking for?

We seek individuals who are passionate about community and public health. You should be self-motivated and flexible with a capacity to conduct independent, project-based work. Since your work may involve interaction with diverse community members and patients, strong communication skills and cultural humility are key.

When do you accept applications?

We accept applications on a rolling basis throughout the year.

What is the application process?

Residency faculty review applications and offer initial phone interviews to qualified candidates. We then extend invitations for in-person or video conference interviews to our most competitive applicants.

How long do internships last?

Internships generally last between 6 weeks and 12 weeks of full-time work (40 hours/week) depending on the requirements of your program.

Where will I work?

Our interns work alongside residency faculty, residents and students in our residency center at the Kaiser Permanente Vallejo Medical Center. You may also work in the field with one of our partners in the local community, typically in Solano or Napa counties.

Are interns compensated?

We do not offer paid opportunities at this time. Students typically intern with us to fulfill a field study requirement for their program. All interns receive free lunch and parking at the hospital.

Where do I live during the internship?

Interns are expected to find their own living accommodations. The Kaiser Permanente Napa-Solano Family Medicine Residency’s location is ideal for interns who are interested in living in Northern California. The residency is located in the vibrant city of Vallejo, a culturally diverse community that provides a reasonable cost of living and an historic downtown waterfront. We are also located within a reasonable commute from Berkeley, Napa, Marin, Oakland, Walnut Creek, and San Francisco.

Do you have university affiliations?

We are an affiliate of the UC San Francisco School of Medicine. We also have strong relationships with the Stanford University School of Medicine, UC Davis School of Medicine, Drexel University School of Medicine, and Touro University College of Osteopathic Medicine. We regularly participate in conferences, faculty development, and research as part of the UCSF Family Medicine Residency network with six other Northern California programs.
