Kaiser Permanente is committed to providing its residents and fellows with a Total Compensation Program that is competitive with what is offered in the external market. We approach salary and benefits as a “total compensation” package which includes wage programs, pay practices, paid time off and benefits.

Educational Stipend

Residents are eligible for an Educational Stipend to attend a conference or for the purchase of books, CDs or other educational materials subject to the approval of the Program Director.

$1,000 for all residents & fellows.

Exam Fees Reimbursement

Up to $1,500 Board Exam reimbursement for graduating residents/fellows. Must complete reimbursement request and board exam application receipt by May 31 of graduation year.

Up to $925 USMLE Step 3 and COMLEX Level 3 exam fees. The examination must be completed by 3/31 of the PGY-1 year in order to be reimbursed by Kaiser Permanente.

Board Preparation Support

  1. Up to $1,500 board prep exam course reimbursement (one-time only). Resident may choose preferred course.
  2. New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) Knowledge+ Board Preparation Course: Family Medicine, Pediatric, and Adult Psychiatry Residents.
  3. Medical Knowledge Self-Assessment Program (MKSAP) Tracker Board Preparation Course: Internal Medicine residents (Categorical Residents).

Wellness Stipend

Your health and wellness are important to Kaiser Permanente. We offer a $720 (taxable) annual stipend to be used for personal health and wellness.

Housing Stipend

Residents and fellows are provided a housing stipend of $8,000 (taxable) per academic year.

Relocation Stipend – New Hire Residents & Fellows

After hire, all new KP residents and fellows receive a one-time stipend of $1000 (taxable) to offset relocation expenses.

iPhones

iPhones are provided for each resident and fellow, allowing access to the electronic medical record and other applications. These are returned upon graduation/completion of the program.

Meals

Residents and fellows are provided an $1,800 (taxable) annual stipend for meal expenses.

COVID-19 Vaccination Notice

Kaiser Permanente employees are required to complete their COVID-19 vaccination (one dose of Johnson & Johnson; second dose of either Moderna or Pfizer) or receive an approved religious or medical exemption. Employees who have not met the requirements must be placed on unpaid administrative leave, or otherwise prevented from working pending compliance. As of December 8, employees who have not submitted proof of completed vaccination and who do not have an approved exemption are no longer eligible to continue employment and will be terminated. Any employee whose request for an exemption was denied will have at least 30 days to comply with the COVID-19 vaccination policy after the date of denial.
