About San Leandro

San Leandro is a friendly and diverse city with a colorful heritage and numerous cultural amenities including a 450-berth Marina, two golf courses and a large community library. Discovered in 1772 by a Spanish explorer, San Leandro became famous during the late 1800s and early 1900s for its delicious cherries – hence the ubiquitous cherry logos on any anything related to San Leandro. In 1909, to celebrate the abundant cherry harvest, San Leandro held its first Cherry Festival. It is still celebrated today even if the cherry harvests have long since become a fond memory.

San Leandro is centrally located in the East Bay – 22 miles southeast of San Francisco, 13 miles south of Oakland, 33 miles north of San Jose and about 20 miles west of the valley communities surrounding Pleasanton. The city is sandwiched by the 580 and 880 freeways, and has easy access to the Oakland Bay Bridge and San Mateo Bridge. San Leandro has a BART station with a shuttle service to Kaiser Permanente San Leandro Medical Center. Oakland International Airport is a mere 15 minutes away from San Leandro.

Kaiser Permanente San Leandro Medical Center is located on 2500 Merced Street and offers Emergency, Anesthesia, Cardiology, Gastroenterology, Infectious Disease, Internal Medicine, Neonatology, Ob/Gyn, Labor and Delivery, Oncology, Orthopedics, Pharmacy, Podiatry, Pulmonology, Surgical, Critical Care, and Pre-Operative Services.
