Medical Students – Educational Tracks - Kaiser Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship (KLIC)

KLIC at Kaiser Permanente East Bay

The Kaiser Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship (KLIC) at Kaiser Permanente East Bay Medical Center is a one-year program for third-year UCSF medical students. This longitudinal clerkship offers 8 UCSF students an opportunity to train within the nonprofit, integrated, managed care system that is often viewed as the health care model for the future.

KLIC students work closely with patients and faculty to provide comprehensive medical care over time and to gain insight into the patient’s experience of illness and physician practice within one medical system. Further, the medical students develop long-term relationships with their patients and the Kaiser Permanente physicians. Students train with staff physicians from the departments of anesthesia, emergency medicine, family medicine, general surgery, internal medicine, neurology, obstetrics and gynecology, pediatrics, psychiatry, and surgical sub-specialties.

Our weekly interdisciplinary program includes the clerkship’s core curriculum, clinical skills sessions, and student reports. The program also features health systems leadership sessions designed to train future leaders in healthcare and gives students the opportunity to construct a QI project.

KLIC is offered to third-year UCSF medical students as part of UCSF’s Structured Program Option. Further information can be found on UCSF’s Clerkships with Continuity.
