What will it be like to be in a new residency program?
Some aspects of being a resident in a new program are the same as any family medicine program: Our program needs to meet the same requirements as other programs, our residents need to take the same core rotations as all family medicine programs, our residents are assessed using the same milestones as all other family medicine programs. There are also exciting differences with being in a brand new program. You will be integral to the shaping of the culture of the program and your input will be extremely valuable as we grow.
What kind of applicants are you looking for?
We are looking for mature and flexible applicants who will thrive in new and changing learning environments, as we establish our presence in Sacramento and develop our personality as a residency program. We want leaders who will take an active role in the success of our program. Our residents will be passionate to learn and grow, as they serve the community in which we work.
What type of board scores are necessary to get into your program?
Kaiser Permanente Residency and Fellowship programs across California tend to be very competitive, receiving hundreds of applications every year. However, each program makes selections for interviewing and matching based on the applicant’s entire file. It’s important to have a well-rounded file that includes solid board scores, community involvement, a clearly defined passion for Family Medicine, and letters of recommendation that capture your clinical and personal strengths.
When should I submit my application?
