Interventional Cardiology Fellowship (ACGME) - FAQ

What is the deadline for applying? When is the interview season?

We accept applications through ERAS and participate in the NRMP match program. Applications are typically accepted between July–August. Interviews will take place between September and October.

How many fellows are in the program?

Our program accepts 2 fellows per year.

How much time off will I have? How much vacation time do I get?

Compliance with the ACGME clinical and educational work hours requirements is a top priority. All fellows have a minimum of one-day in seven free of clinical work and required education when averaged over four weeks, and at least eight hours off between all scheduled periods of clinical work and education.

All fellows have four weeks of paid vacation. There is also one week of education leave for fellows that can be used toward attending medical conferences or medical board preparation.

Can I afford to live in San Francisco on a fellow’s salary?

As a highly desirable place to live and work, San Francisco has always had a relatively high cost of living. The majority of fellows live in the city. We receive a housing stipend to help offset housing costs. The graduate medical education program also pays fellows’ parking fees, and medical licensing fees, and provides an educational stipend each year of fellowship and a wellness stipend.

How is KP San Francisco different from other fellowships?

We have excellent attending and faculty for mentorship who practice evidence-based medicine. KP’s large patient base allows for excellent training in Interventional Cardiology. We perform over 700 interventional procedures per year, and we work in a collegial environment.
