We approach salary and benefits as a “total compensation” package which includes wage programs, pay practices, paid time off and benefits.

Educational Stipend
Residents are eligible for an Educational Stipend to attend a conference or for the purchase of books, CDs or other educational materials subject to the approval of the Program Director.
$1,000 (taxable) for all residents & fellows.
Exam Fees Reimbursement
Up to $1,500 Board Exam reimbursement for graduating residents/fellows. Must complete reimbursement request and board exam application receipt by May 31 of graduation year.
All Fellows that are seeking additional board certifications shall receive an additional $1,500 (up to) above the original $1,500 (up to) Board Exam reimbursement. Must complete reimbursement request and board exam application receipt by May 31 of the graduation year.
Up to $925 USMLE Step 3 and COMLEX Level 3 exam fees. The examination must be completed by 3/31 of the PGY-1 year in order to be reimbursed by Kaiser Permanente.
Board Preparation Support
- Up to $1,500 board prep exam course reimbursement (one-time only). Resident may choose preferred course.
- New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) Knowledge+ Board Preparation Course: Family Medicine, Pediatric, and Adult Psychiatry Residents.
- Medical Knowledge Self-Assessment Program (MKSAP) Tracker Board Preparation Course: Internal Medicine residents (Categorical Residents).
Wellness Stipend
Your health and wellness are important to Kaiser Permanente. We offer a $800 (taxable) annual stipend to be used for personal health and wellness.
Housing Stipend
Resident and fellows are provided a housing stipend of $9,000, it is added to their base salary.
Relocation Stipend – New Hire Residents & Fellows
After hire, all new KP residents and fellows receive a one-time stipend of $2,000 (taxable) to offset relocation expenses.
iPhones
iPhones are provided for each resident and fellow, allowing access to the electronic medical record and other applications. These are returned upon graduation/completion of the program.
Meals
Residents and fellows are provided a $2,500 (taxable) meal stipend. Meal stipend will be paid in August and January.
