Psychiatry Sacramento - Diversity, Equity, Inclusion

Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity in the GSV Psychiatry Residency

At Kaiser Permanente and within the Greater Sacramento Valley (GSV) Psychiatry Residency Program, we believe in equity and inclusion for all—regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, sexual identity, socioeconomic status, neurodivergence, ability, or other identity attributes. We are committed to weaving equity, inclusion, and diversity into the fabric of our residency, recognizing that these principles are essential for positive change and superior performance.

Equity is central to our mission of delivering high-quality care and training. Our goals are to:

  • Promote, recruit, and retain a diverse body of residents and faculty.
  • Prepare residents and faculty for meaningful interactions with each other and with patients.
  • Foster an inclusive work environment for medical students, residents, faculty, and staff.
  • Deepen understanding and engagement with the patients and communities we serve across the Greater Sacramento Valley.

To support these aims, residency applications undergo holistic review, and all faculty interviewers complete annual implicit bias training.

Our Community of Patients

Kaiser Permanente serves one of the most diverse patient populations in the nation, including more than 45% of Californians. Within the GSV region, residents will provide care to patients across Sacramento, Roseville, Folsom, and surrounding areas. Training includes direct experience with diverse patient populations both within Kaiser Permanente and through community psychiatry rotations at partner sites, offering exposure to a wide range of cultural, socioeconomic, and clinical contexts.
