Psychiatry - Psychiatry Greater Sacramento Valley

Kaiser Permanente in the Greater Sacramento Valley has established a new Adult Psychiatry Residency Program and will welcome its first class in July 2026!

Our Mission

The Kaiser Permanente Greater Sacramento Valley (GSV) Psychiatry Residency Program is dedicated to fostering a learning environment where residents excel in clinical expertise and embrace the values that define exemplary psychiatric practice. The pillars of our program are compassionate care, academic rigor, sociocultural humility, and community engagement.

Program Aims

Compassionate Care: We commit to nurturing a culture of empathy and understanding, recognizing the unique needs and experiences of each individual. Our residents will develop the skills to provide compassionate care that goes beyond symptom management, fostering meaningful connections with patients to support their holistic well-being.

Academic Rigor: Grounded in evidence-based practices, our residency program prioritizes critical thinking and the highest standards of academic rigor. We equip residents with up-to-date advancements in psychiatric research and technology, ensuring that their clinical decision-making is informed by a solid foundation of scientific knowledge.

Sociocultural Humility: Recognizing the diverse population of the Sacramento Valley, we embrace the importance of sociocultural humility. Our residents will be trained to approach mental health with cultural sensitivity, acknowledging and respecting the unique backgrounds, beliefs, and values of the individuals and communities they serve.

Community Engagement: As the largest healthcare provider in the Sacramento Valley, we believe in the transformative power of community involvement. Our residents will engage with local communities to understand and address the social determinants of mental health. Leveraging our location in California’s capital city, we will enhance the well-being of the broader community through partnerships, advocacy, and outreach initiatives.
