About the presenter
Dr. Wheeler is the Medical Director of Undergraduate & Graduate Medical Education and serves on the Regional Governance and Contributions Committees for KFH/HP Community Health as well as the National Equity, Inclusion, & Diversity Council. He served as the Physician-in-Chief of the Kaiser Permanente Medical Centers in Fremont and the Greater Southern Alameda area for 18 years and was a member of the Board of Directors and the Operations Management Group of The Permanente Medical Group. Dr. Wheeler joined Kaiser Permanente in 1984 as a staff pediatrician and neurologist in Hayward and Walnut Creek. Dr. Wheeler currently serves as an Assistant Professor in Clinical Science at the KP Bernard J Tyson School of Medicine and on the Graduate Medical Education Committee at Stanford University School of Medicine.
Dr. Wheeler graduated from the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy and the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine. Following medical school, he did a 6-month American Hepatic Foundation Fellowship at the Kings College Hospital on the liver failure unit in London, England. He then did residency training in Pediatrics at Boston City Hospital and Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles. His residency was followed by a fellowship in Pediatric Neurology at Boston City Hospital & the Boston University Combined Neurology Program, where he also served as a clinical instructor. He then completed a fellowship in Epilepsy/EEG and the Houston Merritt Fellowship in Cerebral Palsy at the Children’s Hospital in Boston and Harvard Medical School, where he also served as a clinical instructor. After moving to the Bay Area, Dr. Wheeler became a clinical instructor at UCSF in the Department of Pediatrics and the Division of Neurology. His research interests have been in the area of anti-epileptic medications and alternative epilepsy treatments.
A founding member of the Kaiser Permanente African American Professionals Association (KPAAPA) in Northern California, Dr. Wheeler twice served as president. He completed the KP Advanced Leadership Program at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill in 1997. He completed the California Healthcare Foundation Leadership Fellowship between 2003-2005. He serves on the Boards of Directors of the National Medical Fellowships, the Health Career Connections and the California College of the Arts.

About the presenter
Theresa Azevedo-Rousso is the Director and Designated Institutional Official (DIO) of Kaiser Permanente Northern California Undergraduate & Graduate Medical Education. With over 30 years of experience in leading research and education, Theresa joined the KP leadership team 16 years ago wherein she focusses on strategic development new programs that align with KP and community workforce development goals. In addition, Theresa leads facilitates faculty and resident development, oversees accreditation and educational outcomes, financial planning, and marketing of KPNC’s residency and fellowship programs, serving approximately 450 KP residents and fellows, 1,500+ affiliated residents and over 800 medical students – spanning twenty-one medical centers. Theresa received her bachelor’s degree from Saint Mary’s College of California, her Master’s in Public Administration at the University of San Francisco and is currently a doctoral scholar in education (EdD) at the University of Southern California.
Theresa’s scholarly interests are community workforce development and diversity, integrating quality and performance improvement across the educational continuum – especially in health inequities, and the effects of healthcare policy on graduate medical education.
A native of California, Theresa lives in the San Francisco Bay Area and enjoys its many hiking and cycling areas. Theresa is an active volunteer with several organizations, including her role as Community Volunteer Leader for American Red Cross, Northern California.

About the presenter
Stephanie Collins-Jones is a Benefit Specialist in the Benefits Delivery Functional Area. As part of the HR Service Delivery model, Benefits Delivery provides benefits education and specialty services to Kaiser Permanente enterprise wide.
Stephanie joined Kaiser Permanente in 1996 and held several HR roles at what is currently known as the National Human Resources Service Center. In 2005, she transferred into the functional area of employee benefits and provided local support such as benefit consultations, retirement planning and financial wellness seminars for the Central Valley and Fresno Service Areas in NCAL. In 2009, the local role transitioned to supporting the organization on a national level.
Stephanie holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration – Human Resources Management from California State University Stanislaus.
Stephanie enjoys working for Kaiser Permanente because of the wonderful benefits and opportunities for growth the organization offers.

About the presenter
Dr. Juleon Rabbani is Assistant Director of the Kaiser Permanente Northern California (KPNC) Division of Research Biostatistical Consulting Unit (BSCU). In this role, he mentors and collaborates with KPNC clinicians across the region to develop, implement and publish applied research and quality improvement studies. Dr. Rabbani also serves on the KPNC Central Research Committee as a biostatistical reviewer for Community Benefit grant proposals. Prior to his current role, he directed the research of the Graduate Medical Education programs in the KPNC Napa-Solano service area. He also founded the KP Public Health Research Internship program, which partners public health students with residents/fellows and faculty to create scholarly activity projects. He earned his DrPH in epidemiology at the Uniformed Services University F. Edward Hébert School of Medicine and his MPH in Global Health Leadership at the University of Southern California Keck School of Medicine.

Richard S. Isaacs, MD, FACS, is CEO and executive director of The Permanente Medical Group and president and CEO of the Mid-Atlantic Permanente Medical Group, two of the largest and most distinguished medical groups in the nation. Together, TPMG and MAPMG have more than 11,000 Permanente physicians and over 40,000 nurses and staff delivering high-quality health care to more than 5.2 million Kaiser Permanente members in Northern California, Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia.
Dr. Isaacs, who was named by Modern Healthcare as one of the 100 Most Influential People in Healthcare and one of the 50 Most Influential Clinical Executives in each of the past 2 years, also serves as co-CEO of The Permanente Federation. The Federation is a consortium of all the Permanente Medical Groups in the nation, and it supports the work of more than 23,000 Permanente physicians and 80,000 employees. In this role, Dr. Isaacs provides strategic leadership and direction to all the Permanente Medical Groups, and to the national Kaiser Permanente Program. Kaiser Permanente is comprised of the Permanente Medical Groups, Kaiser Foundation Health Plan, Inc., and Kaiser Foundation Hospitals.
Previously, Dr. Isaacs served as physician in chief for the Kaiser Permanente South Sacramento Medical Center, where he was responsible for all clinical operations throughout the inpatient and outpatient arenas. While physician-in-chief, Dr. Isaacs played a critical leadership role in helping his medical staff pioneer several innovative initiatives that were ultimately adopted by Kaiser Permanente nationwide.
In 2005, Kaiser Permanente South Sacramento was the alpha site for the successful implementation of Kaiser Permanente’s electronic health record, Kaiser Permanente HealthConnect®, a technological accomplishment that inspired other pioneering applications using smartphone connectivity to further enhance the quality of care and patient experiences.
Kaiser Permanente South Sacramento also was the first Level II trauma center in Kaiser Permanente, earning that designation in 2008. More recently, Kaiser Permanente South Sacramento’s collaborative Greater Sacramento Sports Medicine program has expanded to provide expert care to regional and professional athletes.
Dr. Isaacs currently serves on the board of directors for the Alliance of Community Health Plans, the American Medical Group Association, and the Kaiser Permanente Bernard J. Tyson School of Medicine. He also has served as a clinical professor of Otolaryngology at University California, Davis School of Medicine; Drexel University School of Medicine; and California Northstate University School of Medicine.
Born and raised in Detroit, Dr. Isaacs received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan and his medical degree from Wayne State University School of Medicine in Detroit. He completed his otolaryngology-head and neck surgery training in New York at the Manhattan Eye, Ear and Throat Hospital/New York Hospital-Cornell Medical College/Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
Subsequently, he received his head and neck oncologic and skull base surgical training from UC Davis.
He joined The Permanente Medical Group following the completion of his surgical training in 1995. He is board certified in otolaryngology with advanced certification in head and neck oncologic surgery, is a fellow of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, and a fellow of the American College of Surgeons.
