The Arturo Garzon Memorial Scholarship is created to honor Dr. Arturo Garzon, a Kaiser Permanente Sacramento Family Medicine Resident and UC Davis ACE-PC Graduate. Dr. Garzon exemplified the finest qualities of a community engaged family physician. The scholarship seeks to support medical students who have demonstrated strong interest in Latino/a/x health, community health, and mentoring other students into health careers. One scholarship recipient will be awarded each year.
Scholarship Amount: $5,000
Please Note: The scholarship amount of $5,000 will be sent directly to your medical school, with no exceptions.
2025 Scholarship Criteria
- Be a current third-year medical student at an accredited medical school in good academic standing who expects to graduate in the spring of 2026.
- Attend an accredited allopathic or osteopathic medical school
- Strong career interest in Latino/a/x Health and Primary Care
Timeline
- Applications are accepted from November 18, 2024 through January 31, 2025
- Candidates selected for final consideration will be invited for a phone interview in March 2025
- Scholarship winners will be announced in April 2025
- Awards will be presented to winners in person or during a virtual event in May of 2025
How to apply
- Complete and submit the 2025 Dr. Arturo Garzon Memorial Scholarship Application
- Provide your current curriculum vitae
- Provide a your medical or osteopathic school’s letter confirming good academic standing
- Provide one letter of recommendation from a mentor or teacher at your school or a person familiar with your work in the community.
- Write a short essay describing “How has your involvement in community work influenced and shaped your goals for your career as a physician?” (500 words max, included in the below application)
- All supporting documentation and letters must be submitted through the online application in PDF format.
- Incomplete applications will not be considered.
- A confirmation email will be sent to the medical school email address on record upon successful submission of your application. Please save that email for your records.
