Medical Students – Scholarships - Dr. Brian W. Lin Memorial Scholarship for Medical Students

The Brian W. Lin Memorial Scholarship is created to honor Dr. Brian W. Lin, a Kaiser Permanente Emergency Medicine Physician, Director of Undergraduate Medical Education and creator of the Kaiser Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship (KLIC) at KP San Francisco.

This scholarship seeks to support medical students who have participated in or are currently involved in a longitudinal clinical experience and have demonstrated a commitment to teaching, mentorship, and educational innovation.

2026 Scholarship Criteria – Application Opening this Fall

  • Be a current third or fourth-year medical student in good academic standing who expects to graduate in the spring of 2027 or 2028
  • Enrolled in an accredited allopathic, osteopathic, or podiatric medical school
  • Scholarship Amount: $5,000. The $5,000 scholarship will be sent directly to your medical school, with no exceptions.
  • Submit completed application by October 23, 2026

Timeline

  • Open Application Period: August 1 through October 23, 2026
  • Candidates selected for final consideration may be invited for a phone interview in mid-November 2026
  • Scholarship winner will be announced end of November 2026
  • Award will be presented in December 2026 during the KLIC graduation

How to apply

  • Complete and submit the Dr. Brian W. Lin Memorial Scholarship Application.
  • Provide your current curriculum vitae.
  • Provide a letter from your medical, osteopathic, or podiatric school confirming good academic standing.
  • Provide one letter of recommendation from a mentor or teacher at your school or someone familiar with your work in the community.
  • Please list the Longitudinal Integrated Clerkship (LIC) program you have participated in or are currently enrolled in. (MAX 500 words )
  • Write a short essay describing “How has your involvement in teaching, mentorship, or educational innovation influenced and shaped your goals for your career as a physician?” (MAX 500 words)
  • All supporting documentation and letters must be submitted through the online application in PDF format.
  • Incomplete applications will not be considered.
  • Upon successful submission of your application, a confirmation email will be sent to your medical school email address on record. Please save that email for your records.
