We accept applications through ERAS and participate in the NRMP match program. The application process opens on July 1st 2018. Interviews will take place between August and October 2018. Match day is November 28, 2018.
Our program will have 2 fellows per year (total of 6).
This will vary depending on rotation. In general, there are no overnight in hospital calls.
Our program has the best of both worlds – practicing in an integrated health system and close connections with academic institutions. We will be intensely focusing on clinical training. Our vision is to prepare our fellows to be some of the best training oncologists coming out of fellowship. The training will be predominantly in the outpatient setting, which is where most of the assessment and management of cancer patients takes place. Fellows will rotate through the Stanford Cancer Institute, one of the premier cancer centers in the country. We are also affiliated with the soon to be launched Kaiser Permanente medical school in Southern California. Many members of our department are also teaching faculty at the University of California, San Francisco.
See the page regarding research. We offer many opportunities for clinical, epidemiological, outcomes and clinical trials research.
All fellows will be assigned mentors. They will meet periodically to review performance, set goals and help prepare fellows for a career of their choice. Later, each fellow can also choose an additional mentor from his/her area of interest for more intense professional guidance. Oncology is a uniquely intellectually and emotionally challenging profession. We are dedicated to help our fellows thrive professionally and personally.
KP Northern California GME policy allows for 15 days of vacation and 5 days of education leave per academic year.
As one of the most desirable locations to live and work in the country, the cost of living in San Francisco has gone up in recent years. Kaiser Permanente provides one of the most generous resident and trainee compensation packages in the country. See the Salaries and Benefits page for more details. Fellows will get an annual housing stipend in addition to other benefits.
